Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr was born on November 9th, 1914 in Austria. When she was a young child, she would listen to her father describe how new modern machines worked like cars and printing presses. This inspired her thoughts, and by the time she was five years old, she could take apart and put back together her music box so she could understand how it worked. Her mother enrolled her in dance and piano lessons, both of which she was excellent in at the age of ten. When she was 16, she attended Max Reinhardt's drama school and was in her first minor film: "Money on the Street". Hedy went on to act in many other films including "Tortilla Flat", "Algiers", and "Ecstasy". During World War II, she met George Antheil. He was a composer, but just like her, he had a very creative mindset. Together, the two began to form ideas that eventually formed an invention. They called it a "Secret Communication Service", and it involved hopping different radio frequencies that prevented the Nazis from decoding their messages. Sadly, she passed away on January 19, 2000. Today, their invention is used in modern-day military technologies, cell phones, and satellites.
