Grace Hopper

Grace Hopper has made a huge impact on our world's growth in the field of computer science. Without her accomplishments, our technology wouldn't be as advanced as it is today. Hopper joined the Naval Reserve, and was then assigned to the Bureau of Ordnance's Computation project at Harvard. There she worked on an automatic calculator which would eventually lead to the creation of the electronic computer. Hopper also wrote the first manual that included information on how to use the automatic calculator, which was called Mark I. It also explained how to program a computer. After joining the Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation, Hopper created one of the first compilers. A compiler helps to turn programming instructions into code. All these accomplishments were crucial in bringing our world to where it is today. We have Grace Hopper to thank for our modern technology and our forward moving world.
